I hope
Snowed Inn provides you with an enjoyable, intimate and memorable
experience. I would like to share what has guided me in creating McCall’s first and only luxury vacation yurt. The
design and construction of Snowed Inn has been an evolutionary one. I held
my vision with some flexibility in the beginning and nudged it into
maturity. The project was shaped by my love of nature, the history of the
nomadic yurt dwelling Mongols, and by my trusted builders Charley Taber and
Marty Thiede – two of McCall’s
finest.
My dream
began with the desire for an experiential contrast between the unencumbered
forest on the outside, and a simple yet unique and luxurious internal
environment. My quest was to create a unique and inspiring residential
space set far apart from the typical motel room or condo. Intimacy,
privacy, romance and environmental sustainability were also essential
guiding forces in the design process. I wanted Snowed Inn to illustrate how
simplicity and earth-friendly can also be cozy, inviting and warm. During
design and construction, I demanded that Snowed Inn be environmentally
sound and sustainable. To this end, it was designed to be completely off
the grid, yet hold the comfort of the 21st century. So, radiant floor heat
and solar generated electricity were integral in the design. The external
environment was crucial, so it was nestled within a naturally existing
clearing in a beautifully forested area. My love for winter, snow, and
winter sports found the location close to both cross country and downhill ski
resorts. And, of course, Snowed Inn’s land serves
us well for a hike, snowshoe, or even cross country ski right out the front
door.
As I have
always enjoyed the simplicity of Asian influence and followed that theme to
its current conclusion. Wanting to share more than merely a place to sleep
I looked for unusual decorative treasures to enhance the visual and overall
experience of my guests. Again, I hope you enjoy my creation and that
Snowed Inn leads you in directions that you don’t
currently imagine.
